Job description
M.P Shah Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Laboratory Technologist to join our team. The purpose of this job is to carry out diagnostic tests in line with established protocols in order to facilitate clinicians to make proper diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate ability to function in all areas of the clinical laboratory including blood bank, chemistry, haematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, urinalysis and phlebotomy.
This position reports to the Senior Laboratory Technologist
Responsibility
1. Select and verify the test procedures to be performed and establish the laboratorys test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system for accurate clinical test results.
2. Receive and prepare matter for analysis and diagnosis, performing duties such as cutting, embedding, and staining tissue, mounting slides, and preparing complex chemical solutions and media.
3. Evaluate specimens received by the laboratory, organize workflow to provide optimum efficiency of testing and turnaround times of results, and verify laboratory test results to ensure they meet the quality thresholds in line with established quality guidelines.
4. Correlate laboratory findings with disease states; integrate and relate data from other laboratory specialty areas; confirm abnormal results and resolve specimen and testing discrepancies.
5. Quality Control - Establish a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establish the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance.
6. Resolve technical problems and ensure that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specification.
7. Identify training needs and ensure each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the services performed.
8. Safety- Observe/comply with Health and Safety requirements in the laboratory by maintaining high standards of hygiene and general cleanliness in the work area.
Qualifications
1. BSC in Medical Laboratory Technology
2. At least 3 years’ experience in a busy medical laboratory.
3. Registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologist and Technicians Board
