Job description

M.P. Shah Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to collect test samples from patients. Additional duties include assisting patients at the laboratory reception area, entering test data into the system, performing blood draws from donors, and registering donors.

This position reports to the Manager, Laboratory.

Responsibility

1. Customer Management- Receive and attend to patients at the Laboratory Phlebotomy area. Provide reassurance to patients and help them relax before sample collection. Address any questions or concerns they may have.

2. Data management - Correctly label all samples before handling the samples for testing. Capture sample data in the request form and in the system.

3. Collect samples for testing- Draw blood from both in-patients and out-patients for testing.

4. Facilitate Blood Donations – Set up blood donation collection equipment and prepare the donor. Conduct donor registration and screening, and capture the donors information in the hospital system.

5. Patient Testing – Routinely collect swabs from outpatients for diagnostic purposes, including tests for various diseases such as COVID-19, PAP, HVS, and others.

6. Ensure Safety Conditions – Regularly decontaminate phlebotomy workbenches and laboratory phlebotomy areas. Additionally, participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications

1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification.
2. At least 2 years’ experience in a busy medical laboratory.
3. Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologist and Technicians Board
